Austria Customs Information – HHGlogistics
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Original passport
- Three copies of inventory
- Original Residence Permit
- Certificate of residence change
- An entry certificate from the Police Station of municipal office
- An exit certificate noting the stay abroad was for a period of at least 12 months.
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- Used household goods that have been owned for at least six months prior to entry are typically duty-free. This is true only if the customer has been abroad for a period of at least 12 months; and the goods will not be sold for at least a year after import.
- Household items must be imported within two years of the customer’s change of residence.
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- Perfume, alcohol and tobacco products
- Food items, beverages and other consumable products
- New belongings, appliances and gifts are subject to duties
- Ammunition and weapons require a license
- A plant protection certificate will be required for plants and certain plant products
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Explosives, heavy weapons and ammunition **Firearms require special permit from local authorities **
- Narcotics and drugs
- Pornographic material
- New computers
- New and color TV’s

MOTOR VEHICLES
- Customer may import motor vehicles duty free if owned and used in country of origin for at least six months prior to shipment, and cannot be sold or transferred for two years once in Austria.
- All cars entering Austria must meet specifications which may require extensive modifications.
- Required to show proof of automobile insurance
- Must apply for Austrian license plate immediately; plates from country of origin must also be available.
- Separate customs clearance at main customs office in Vienna required
- Required documents include:
- Log book
- Purchase invoice & contract
- Copy of passport
- Registration with police or local authority in Austria
- Exit certificate noting stay abroad was for a minimum period of 12 months
