Bolivia Customs Information – HHGlogistics
NEEDED DOCUMENTS
- Inventory list of shipment
- A customs bond of 33.38% value of goods will be required. This is often determined by the amount your goods are insured for. If the duty and customs fees are less than the deposit, the difference will be refunded; if duties and fees are more than the deposit, the difference will be billed.
- Authorization letter for Destination Agent to clear shipment
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- Owners presence at customs clearance not mandatory but advised
- Used clothing is duty-free.
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- Invoices required for new items, and they are subject to duties
- Tobacco products and alcohol
- Vegetables, fruits and soil require an Import Permit and are subject to inspection by Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Parks. Those that fail agriculture inspection will be destroyed.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- ALL weapons, including: blowguns, flick knives, crossbows, spear guns, and so on. These items will be confiscated.
- Narcotic drugs
- Ammunition & firearms (require a permit signed by the commissioner of police)
- Explosives
- Silver or gold coins
- Pornographic material
- Political literature
MOTOR VEHICLES
- Vehicles over six months old are not permitted for import
- Motorcycles exceeding 100 cc are prohibited
- Automobile restrictions based off of size and engine capacity
- Duty applies
- A license from the Transport Control Department required
PETS
- Imported animal must be at least four months old
- Requires Import Permit issued by Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Parks
- Health certificate given by a licensed veterinarian in country of origin required
- Name, date of birth, breed and animal description is mandatory
LIQUOR & TOBACCO
- Duties assessed by Bermuda Customs Tariff
- Any one person may import up to 50 cigars and 200 cigarettes, 1.137 liters of spirits and 1.137 liters of wine duty free
OTHER HELPFUL INFORMATION
- A customs officer will be present at residence during time of delivery to assess duties of all items
- Used books and clothing are duty free
- Appliances are 33.4% of assessed customs value
- Sporting goods & furniture are 22.25% of customs value
- Antiques are 8.5% of customs value
- Customs value is typically lower than shipper value; it is highly suggested that shipper is available to answer customs officer’s questions during the time of unloading and assessment.
