Finland Customs Information – HHGlogistics

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Copy of passport
  • Proof of employment
  • Customs declaration
  • Inventory list written in either English, German, Finnish or Swedish; state exact number of packaged including the detailed contents of each carton, alcohol or other dutiable items
  • Your declaration stating goods are your property that have been used abroad, and will continue to be used in Finland
  • Customs may require a Bill of Sale for dutiable items

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

  • YOU MUST BE PRESENT IN FINLAND AT THE TIME OF CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
  • Household goods and personal items may be considered duty free if they are in suitable quantities and:
    • You have owned and used household goods and items abroad and do not sell them for at least 6 months after arriving in Finland
    • You intend to settle in Finland and have live abroad for over a 12 month period
  • Imported goods must not be for commercial use

RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE

  • Invoices are required for items that are less than 6 months old (new items)
  • Fabrics and food
  • Business or professional equipment
  • Precious metal objects
  • A valid Firearm certificate is required for ammunition and firearms; and they will be kept by customs until the valid certificate is obtained
  • Unusable and plugged collectors’ items may be imported with restrictions
  • Tobacco products and alcoholic beverages are subject to high duties
  • Phytosanitary Certificate is required for importation of vegetable and plant products; if you do not have certificate, items will stay in the custody of Customs for inspection and charges will be billed to customer.
  • Certain furs, feathers, skins, tusks and so on of animals under the Protected Species Regulations are restricted
  • Radios and walkie-talkies
  • ALL DUTIABLE ITEMS MUST BE KEPT IN AN EASY TO ACCESS AREA

PROHIBITED ITEMS

  • Fireworks, explosives, clasp-knives and other dangerous edged weapons
  • Drugs and narcotics
  • Automatic weapons
  • Pornographic materials
  • Products coming from animals under the Protected Species Regulations

MOTOR VEHICLES

  • If you qualify for duty-free import of household goods, and have owned and used your vehicle abroad for at least 6 months prior to shipment, you may import 1 automobile duty-free.
  • The duty free value is limited up to $34,000.00. If the car exceeds this customs value, the difference in value is dutiable. Customs will determine the customs value.
  • Vehicle cannot be used by others or sold for 2 years without full payment of taxes and duties
  • If vehicle does not qualify for exemption, the import taxes will be 50-60% of the retail price to a similar new vehicle in Finland.
  • The amount and type of accessories and equipment on automobile will determine the duties
  • Vehicle must comply with the European or U.S. exhaust regulations
  • The following documents are required to import a vehicle:
    • Receipts of payment and purchase-deed
    • Passport
    • Employment certificate to prove vehicle bought with earnings from abroad
    • Foreign insurance policy
    • Original license
    • Finnish insurance policy
    • Drivers license
    • ALL ABOVE DOCUMENTS MUST BE ORIGINALS, NO COPIES

PETS

  • Valid vaccination against rabies required for dogs and cats
  • Pets subject to a minimum of 3 months in quarantine and require a veterinary examination

  • Require a health certificate
  • Import permit from Ministry of Agriculture
  • If proof of ownership available, may import pets duty-free
