Greece Customs Information – HHGlogistics
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Passport; if current passport is less than 2 years old, use previous passport.
- Detailed inventory list examined by Greek Consulate in country of origin. Is to be translated at destination. Must include make, model and serial number of all appliances, quantity and quality, square feet and color of any woven floor coverings in shipment and auto, if any.
- 1599 form (Ipefthini di losi) stating you will keep goods in possession for a minimum of 1 year
- Letter of authorization allowing destination agent to clear goods
- Must have lived abroad for a minimum of 2 years
- Certificate of Repatriation; allows you to bring goods into Greece duty-free.
- Certificate of secondary residence (if applicable)
- Housing contract
- Bank guarantee
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- YOU MUST BE PRESENT IN GREECE AT TIME OF CUSTOMS CLEARANCE, AND MUST PRESENT PASSPORT.
- If you are a Greek repatriate, you must personally attend shipment during clearance.
- All items imported must be re-exported or customs duty will be assessed
- VAT (value added tax) is payable on all goods for foreigners coming to work in Greece
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- One of each appliance allowed for import; include make and serial number on inventory list.
- Office equipment, including but not limited to: photocopies, facsimile and telephone systems are dutiable.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Tobacco products and alcohol
- Matches
- Medicines and drugs
- Firearms
- Playing cards
MOTOR VEHICLES
- Must have been in possession for a minimum of 6 months
- Import restrictions on vehicles with diesel engines
- Duties will vary depending on make, model and length of time vehicle owned
- The following documents are required:
- Consular certificate from country of origin
- List vehicle on household goods inventory
- Vehicle road license and registration plates proving that the appropriate road tax has been paid in country of origin
- Drivers license
