Nigeria Customs Information – HHGlogistics
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

- In order to apply for form “M” a residence permit and personal bank account must be obtained while in Nigeria

- Customs and excise unaccompanied baggage declaration

- Inventory listed in English
- Required to complete PUBD form after arriving in Nigeria
- Letter of authorization to allow destination agent to clear shipment
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- YOUR PRESENCE IS REQUIRED FOR CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
- Used household goods and personal effects typically duty-free if owned for at least 6 months prior to shipment, do not resale in Nigeria, and are for personal use.
- Returning Nigerians must have lived abroad for a minimum of 9 months
- Imported shipment must arrive within 2 months of your arrival
- Shipments 100% inspected
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- Tobacco products and alcohol do not need an import permit if are included as part of household goods shipment and are in reasonable quantities; are still subject to import duties
- Jewelry
- Perfume
- Limit of one of each type for appliances
- All films, video tapes, publications, video discs, gramophone records, audio tapes, compact discs and computers must be examined by customs; duties apply.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Airmail photographic printing paper
- Air pistols
- Base or counterfeit coin of any country
- Beads composed of inflammable celluloid or other similar substances
- Blank invoices
- Cowries
- Coupons for foreign football pools or other betting arrangements
- Exhausted tea or tea mixed with other substances (“exhausted tea” refers to tea which has been deprived of its proper quality, virtue or strength by infusion, steeping, decoction or other means)
- Implements relating to the reloading of cartridges
- Obscene or indecent prints, paintings, books, cards, engravings or any other articles
- Manilas
- Matches composed of white phosphorous
- All imported materials are subject to the opinion of the President to avoid a breach of the peace or to avoid offending the religious views of any class persons in Nigeria
- Vegetables, meat or other provisions declared by a health officer to be unfit for human consumption
- Piece goods and all other textiles (including wearing apparel), hardware of all kinds, crockery and china or earthenware goods with inscriptions (whether in Roman or Arabic characters) from the Quran or from the traditions and commentaries on the Quran.

- Metal alloy or silver coins not legal in Nigeria

MOTOR VEHICLES
- Vehicles required to have been owned continuously and are not to be resold or disposed of upon arrival
- Vehicles that are 8 years or older are prohibited

- Proof of ownership
- Original registration certificate or logbook
- Insurance paper
- Original passport
- Invoice of purchase
- If used vehicle, certificate of road worthiness
- Indicate make, model and serial number
PETS
- Birds of the parrot family not allowed entry
- All pets require a certificate of good health, import permit, and inoculation
- Quarantine may be necessary
