Norway Customs Information – HHGlogistics
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Copy of passport
- Legible inventory list written in Norwegian or English; original and 1 copy required.
- Norwegian customs form RG-124 or RG-124A to be completed and signed by customer (original copies)
- Can obtain these forms from destination age
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- Your presence may be required during the customs clearance process
- Used household goods and personal effects may be duty and value added tax free provided items have been in your possession and used for a minimum of 1 year prior to import
- Imported goods must show obvious signs of wear
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- New items – must indicate purchase price abroad
- Phytosanitary certificate required from country of origin to import live plants
- Permit from the Department of Agriculture required for importation of animal products
- Tobacco and alcohol may only be imported with possession of a Private Importation Permit obtained by the Norwegian Government; duties and taxes for these items assessed and are extremely high
- High taxes and duties also apply for small quantities of tobacco and alcohol
- Requires a detailed list
- Must be loaded at container door for easy access
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Narcotics and certain drugs
- Vitamins and medicines
- Fresh meat
- Products derived from endangered species including ivory, snake skins and some furs
- Cordless phones
- Explosives
- Weapons, firearms and ammunition require a special import license obtained from the Chief of Police upon arrival. The following also applies:
- Requires a membership in a fishing or hunting club
- Without license from Police, weapons will be confiscated
- Automatic weapons strictly prohibited
- Proof of ownership required
- Need license from country of origin
- REQUIRES YOUR PRESENCE AT CUSTOMS CLEARANCE IF ANY OF THESE ITEMS ARE INCLUDED IN YOUR SHIPMENT
- Load all prohibited items at front near container doors for easy access
MOTOR VEHICLES
- Must be present for customs clearance if importing a vehicle
- Allowed only 1 car or motorcycle per family member
- May import vehicles duty-free if:
- You are foreign and moving to Norway on a 2 year visa, and if your vehicle is re-exported at the end of the 2 year term
- You have owned the vehicle for at least 1 year, with a minimum of 5000km/3200 miles and it has been registered in your name for that year, prior to importation
- Returning Norwegians must have lived abroad for a minimum of 5 consecutive years
- You have had a drivers license for at least 1 year
- Will not sell vehicle within 2 years after importation date
- Vehicles do not qualify for duty-free import
- Required to indicate mileage, year, make, model, registration, plate and chassis number, and year the car was registered in your name
- All imported vehicles required to comply with safety standards and emission control regulations
- Vehicle must arrive in Norway within 3 months of your arrival
- Must insure vehicle in Norway before you can drive it
- Only family members residing in the same home as owner are permitted to use vehicle
- Other regulations and strict requirements may apply
PETS
- Strictly regulated
- Requires a health and vaccination certificate, as well as an import permit
- Requires a 4 month quarantine period in an approved and licensed facility – has long waiting list, highly recommended to apply far in advance
- Animals not considered “natural” in Norway are prohibited
