Panama Customs Information – HHGlogistics
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Residence visa OR letter from registered lawyer and copy of petition for residence visa (if you do not have one)
- Work permit or certificate from attorney
- Original passport
- Certificate of change of residence
- Letter confirming employment
- Detailed inventory list written in English or Spanish
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- MUST BE IN PANAMA AT TIME OF CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
- Household goods and personal effect are duty-free for the following:
- Foreigners with residence visa
- Returning Panamanians after 2 years abroad
- Shipments required to arrive within 6 months of your arrival
- All shipments inspected
- You are responsible to pay for the following charges at time of customs clearance:
- Customs inspection
- Custom charges
- Customs broker charges
- Any charges for storage or customs delays are your responsibility
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- Alcohol
- New items
- Jewelry
- Coins
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Drugs and narcotics
- Plants and foodstuffs
- Hay or straw packing in lift-vans
- Weapons, firearms and ammunition
MOTOR VEHICLES
- High duties at approximately 27%-30% of CIF value
- Customs clearance process for vehicles is lengthy and delay is likely.
- The following documents are required:
- Original passport
- Bill of Sale
- Title
- Original certificate of ownership
- Pollution certificate
