- Foreigners require a legalized copy of work contract, present to the Ministry of Labor
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- YOUR PRESENCE IS REQUIRED IN PERU FOR CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
- Household goods and personal effects are dutiable; average rate for tax and duty is 20%
- May import household goods duty-free if they were previously exported from Peru, with supporting documents such as inventory, export policy, and so on, stamped by Peruvian customs.
- Shipment required to arrive before you, or 120 days before your arrival
- May import no more than 1 electrical appliance of the same kind on a 20% import duty basis. Additional electrical appliances that are similar will be charged at 33%
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- A special license and proof of ownership, as well as previous licenses are required for the import of firearms (maximum caliber .38) and telecommunication equipment; obtain these documents from the Ministry of Interior prior to the arrival of shipment.
- No automatic arms allowed
- firearms are subject to confiscation if requirements not met
- drugs and narcotics
- pornographic materials
- explosives
MOTOR VEHICLES
- import duties and tax imposed on all used cars; vehicle cannot exceed 5 years in age
- Vehicles not belonging to diplomats require an inspection prior to customs clearance completion
- the following documents are required:
- original, and fully detailed commercial invoice
- proof of ownership
- title
- certificate of inspection at origin, issued by any international surveillance company such as: SSI, SGS, or Bureau Veritas
