Portugal Customs Information – HHGlogistics
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Original passport
- “Certificado de Bagagem” obtained from Portuguese Consulate
- Inventory written in Portuguese, provide 2 copies, and customer must sign and date both.
- Also list any motor vehicles on inventory
- Provide a valued inventory for customs; include serial numbers of all major electrical appliances.
- Proof of entitlement to reside in Portugal (Atestado de Residencia)
- Need either a work permit, permanent residence permit or a deed to property owned by customer
- Declaration of ownership of goods signed by customer and witnessed by a notary public, stating goods are customers own possessions
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- YOUR PRESENCE IS REQUIRED IN PORTUGAL PRIOR TO SHIPMENTS ARRIVAL FOR CUSTOMS INSPECTION
- Shipments required to arrive within 90 days of your arrival, and within 120 days of being issued the “Certificado de Bagagem”
- Only 1 shipment allowed without special permit
- If expecting more than 1 shipment, a detailed inventory list must be submitted for each, include with first shipment
- If origins of shipments come from more than one place, a separate inventory is to be submitted for each
- All shipments required to be cleared through same customs office
- Household goods must correspond in quantity to customer
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- New items (those less than 6 months old), or items that do not show obvious signs of use. **Do not pack in manufacturer’s cartons**
- Electrical appliances and items must be listed on inventory with make, serial number, and so on
- Tobacco products
- Antiques
- The above items should be stored near container doors for easy access by customs
- A reasonable quantity of wine and spirits allowed with import of household goods; should be equivalent to the contents of a normal domestic wine rack and cocktail cabinet.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Weapons, firearms and ammunition
- Up to a caliber of 7.62mm requires a special permit, anything over is prohibited
- Narcotics and drugs
- Pornographic materials
- Gold bars
- Perishable foodstuffs
- Alcohol
- Games of chance
MOTOR VEHICLES
- Allowed to import vehicles that have been in your possession for a minimum of 6 months
- Duty and taxes apply to all vehicles
- Duty and tax rates will vary based on the year, make, model, and engine size of vehicle; duty and tax rates very high.
- The following documents are required:
- Title
- Original registration
- Insurance document
- International drivers license
PETS
- Requires a certificate of health issued by veterinarian; should be no more than 4 weeks before the date of entry.
