Spain Customs Information – HHGlogistics
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Spain:
- Original or legalized copy (by Spanish Consulate) Passport, include last entry stamp
- Spanish identification card (D.N.I.)
- Residence visa
- Original Work/residence permit
- Requires a bank guarantee if work/residence permit not available
- Certificate of origin/certificate of residence change (Asunto Cambio Residencia); can obtain from local city hall.
- Residence purchase/rental agreement stating minimum rent of 2 years
- Letter from employer declaring employment in Spain
- Consular registration
- Fiscal identification number (N.I.E.)
- Non-Spanish citizens require a consular or residence resign from origin declaring have canceled his/her residence at origin
- Customs application for duty-free import
- Authorization letter allowing destination agent to clear shipment
- Detailed inventory list written in Spanish; provide 2 copies signed & dated and legalized by Spanish Consulate at origin, also provide values
- Required to list all contents of cartons and state goods have not been used for more than 6 months, include make, model and serial number for all major appliances.
- May require a purchase inventory for appliances
- Canary Islands:
- Original passport, including last entry stamp by police or photocopy legalized by a Notary Public
- Original certificate of Domicile, can obtain from local Town Hall
- N.I.E. number (original identification number)
- Original flight tickets
- Original inventory listed in Spanish, include valuation and signature of customer
- Original rental contract or Escritura-Title Deed to property
- Application of residence
- ALL ISLANDS MAY VARY IN REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
- All shipments not properly documented will be assessed taxes and import duties at values determined by Spanish customs; may face long delays and additional charges.
- IF NO CLEARANCE PROCEDURES ENSUE BECAUSE LACK OF DOCUMENTS, SHIPMENT SUBJECT TO AUCTION BY SPANISH CUSTOMS AFTER 1 MONTH.
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- SHIPMENT WILL NOT BE PROCESSED UNTIL CUSTOMER PROVIDES ALL DOCUMENTS AND IS IN SPAIN
- Used household goods may import duty-free if:
- Owned for at least 6 months (EC countries 3 months) before arriving in Spain, and if customer can prove ownership for this time.
- Will not be sold, traded or disposed of for at least 1 year upon arriving in Spain
- Contents correspond to customer’s status
- Used household goods required to be imported no later than 12 months after have obtained work/residence permit
- Imported shipment required to arrive no later than 3 months after customer. If arrives later, a special permit is required and will result in additional charges and delays.
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- New items
- Tobacco products
- Special permit is required for import of antiques, art objects, foodstuffs and ammunition
- Alcohol
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Require special permit from the Spanish Police for weapons and ammunition; can be obtained from Direccion General de la Guardia Civil
- Must include a complete description with caliber, model, serial number, and so on
- Spanish Police will hold until permission is granted
- Drugs
- Plants
- Cleaning fluid
- Pornographic materials
MOTOR VEHICLES
- Duty-free import allowed for limited time of 6 months. Upon application for permanent permit, import duties and taxes subject to payment.
- Must have lived outside of Spain for minimum of 12 months; 6 months for EC countries.
- Vehicle must have been used by owner for at least 6 months prior to import
- Modifications which alter original design are prohibited
- Must obtain Spanish vehicle registration, along with a temporary permit; can retrieve these at customs.
- The following documents are required for import:
- Certificate of ownership or purchase invoice
- Title or registration
- Circulation permit
- Tax receipt
- Valid liability insurance
- License plates from country of origin
- Identification card
- Residence card or passport
- Valid insurance
