Taiwan Customs Information – HHGlogistics
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Original passport
- Copy of birth certificate for each child and marriage license, if applicable
- Residence visa
- Proof of employment
- Copy of work permit or original alien resident certificate
- Certificate of residence
- Copy of inventory
- Letter of authorization for destination agent to clear shipment
- Customs declaration form (inward passenger’s declaration) required for unaccompanied baggage. Must describe quantity and value of all items and be completed upon your arrival; can be obtained at airport. Must declare medicines and weapons as well.
- Arrival certificate (yellow page)
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BE IN COUNTRY AT TIME OF CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
- Shipment required to arrive within 6 months of owner
- May be duty-free if household goods in suitable quantities and are used
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- Tobacco products
- Currency and gold bullion require an import permit
- Wine has very high duties and tax at 280%
- New items and new or used appliances
- Repack new items to reduce or avoid duties
- Electrical items are dutiable and have a limit of one of each type per family
- Carpets
- Pianos
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Alcohol
- Hunting knives, weapons (including toy weapons), firearms, bows, ammunition and explosives. SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES WILL ENSUE FOR THOSE WHO INCLUDE THESE ITEMS IN THEIR SHIPMENT.
- Drugs (non-prescription)
- Politically sensitive and pornographic literature
- Gambling tools
- Trees, plants, soil, food and vegetables
- Any items prohibited for export/import by Washington Treaty prohibited. These include taxidermy animals, insect specimen, wild animal fur, corals, sea shells, and so on.
- Uncooked poultry and meat
- All items deriving from the Peoples Republic of China (P.R.C.) are strictly forbidden in the Republic of China/Taiwan and should not be shipped; will be charged to return.
- Must obtain city’s approval from country of origin before shipping animal fur to Taiwan
MOTOR VEHICLES
- DO NOT SHIP VEHICLE WITH HOUSEHOLD GOODS
- Requires import permit with complete description of vehicle
- Taxes and duties apply
- Vehicles under 1 year old or over 10 years old are prohibited from import
- Vehicle must have been in customer’s name for more than 1 year
- Only 1 vehicle allowed for import, must operate with lead-free gasoline
- The following documents are required:
- Passport
- Residence visa
- Work certificate
- Purchase invoice
- Drivers license
- Title/registration
- Letter from employer
- Detailed description of vehicle including: model, make, color, year, engine number, number of doors, air conditioned, right or left hand drive, radio, and so on.
- Do not ship vehicle until import permit is obtained
PETS
- Quarantine period required, time may vary
- Pet should be kept in continuous supervision after quarantine period has ended, and should be kept on owner’s premises for 6 months
- Required documents for import:
- Import permit
- Work certificate
- Copy of residence certificate
- Copy of passport, including first 3 pages and entry form
- Application form to Bureau of Commodity Inspection and Quarantine; will be issued by owner’s company in Taiwan
- Letter declaring pet will not be for sale or profit
- Original health certificate from licensed veterinarian at origin; must also be certified by foreign veterinary authority & Agricultural Bureau of State indicating pet’s species, sex, breed and age.
- Original rabies vaccination certificate; must be given 30 days before import, but no more than 180 days before departure and be certified by Agricultural Bureau of State.
- Must include 6 colored photographs of pet’s front view & profile; copies should be 4×6
