Thailand Customs Information – HHGlogistics
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Original passport
- Resident visa or non-immigrant visa
- Original work permit or copy of B.O.I. letter to customs
- 2 copies of inventory written in English including the following information:
- Manner of packing (wrapped, carton, crated, and so on)
- All electrical appliances should list the brand name, serial number and model
- TV’s must include the diameter of picture tube and whether in color or black and white
- If applicable, copy of insurance policy
- Customer’s phone number and contact address
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- YOUR PRESENCE IS REQUIRED FOR CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
- All shipments subject to inspection
- May import duty-free if have a full year work permit or one year visa, or are a returning Thai resident who has lived more than 1 year abroad
- Allowed duty-free import of 1 air and 1 sea shipment from country of origin
- Shipment must not arrive before customer
- Items must arrive no later than 6 months after date listed on work permit
- Imported goods must come from same country as owner
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- New items require invoices
- Alcoholic beverages
- Tobacco products
- Antiques and works of art
- Very high duties apply to video and stereo equipment, all appliances, carpets, luxury items, foodstuffs, and office equipment
- Only allowed to import one of each type of electrical appliance, duplicates will be charged full duties
- Fax machines, computers and phones may be considered office equipment and subject to duties
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Drugs and narcotics
- Medical equipment
- Silver and gold
- Plants require a health certificate
- Many fruits and plants are prohibited, check before shipping
- Weapons, ammunition, firearms and dangerous objects are subject to taxes and require licenses; must not include these goods in household shipment.
- Transmitters and radio equipment of any kind
- Pornographic materials
MOTOR VEHICLES
- To import vehicles must obtain permission from the Ministry of Commerce; permission is very difficult to obtain for anyone who is not a diplomat.
- New cars may be charged duties as high as 300%
- Requires vehicle registration from country of origin
- Drivers license from country of export
- Original B/L
- Import permit, must have before shipment into Thailand
PETS
- Subject to duties
- Provide specifics of pet such as name, age, sex and breed to destination agent well in advance of importation
- May require quarantine period
- Required documents include:
- Import permit
- Certification of vaccination
- Pedigree, if available
- Health certificate showing rabies vaccination has been given 7 days prior to departure
- NOTE: recommended to ship pets as excess baggage where customs clearance and duties may not be necessary.
